Building a Transition Wardrobe for Spring

Transition seasons — the weeks between winter and spring, summer and monsoon — are the hardest to dress for. Mornings are cool, afternoons are warm, and the weather changes by the hour.

The solution is a layering system built around lightweight, breathable pieces. Start with a fine merino knit or a cotton shirt as your base. Add a lightweight jacket — a denim jacket, a trench, or an unstructured blazer — that you can remove as the day warms.

Fabric choice is everything. Avoid heavy wool that traps heat, and flimsy synthetics that do not breathe. Linen-cotton blends, fine merino, and lightweight twill are ideal — they regulate temperature and layer without bulk.

Color should shift with the season. Move from the deep tones of winter toward lighter, warmer hues — sage, oatmeal, soft blue. This is not a rule, but it helps your wardrobe feel in sync with the changing light.

Footwear should be versatile. A clean leather sneaker works from morning to evening. Avoid heavy boots that feel wrong as the weather softens, and sandals that are not ready yet.
